Employer Sponsored

Employers who are unable to employ skilled people locally can sponsor skilled people from overseas under one of two categories:

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)

Under ENS, employers can recruit skilled workers on permanent visas to fill full-time highly skilled positions which cannot be filled from the Australian labour market.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)

RSMS allows employers in regional or low population growth areas in Australia that are unable to fill skilled shortages from the local labour market to recruit skilled people from overseas. The only places not covered under RSMS are Brisbane & Gold Coast, Newcastle-Sydney-Wollongong, Melbourne and Perth.

Usually people being considered for ENS and RSMS have to be under 45 years old and have ‘vocational’ English (IELTS 5) for ENS applicants, or ‘functional’ English (IELTS 4.5) for RSMS applicants. The applicant’s qualifications may also need to be assessed by an appropriate assessing authority in Australia.
